While we continue to look forward to some titles already announced in the festival's Discovery section, there are a few new films that will take part in this year's Toronto International Film Festival, including Cannes title Under the Fig Trees, by Erige Sehiri from Tunisia, Switzerland, France and Qatar which will have its North American premiere at TIFF.
The other new films with roots in the MENA just announced include the below:
The world premiere of Alam by Firas Khoury, a co-production by France, Palestine, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Now those are two countries you would not have seen side by side just two years ago. Hail to the power of cinema!
The North American premiere of Ashkal by Youssef Chebbi from France, Tunisia, Qatar. Also the N.A. premiere of the Iranian Beyond the Wall (Shab, Dkheli, Divar) by Vahid Jalilvand.
The world premiere of Life (Жизнь) by Emir Baigazin from Kazakhstan.
The North American premiere of Israeli title Valeria Is Getting Married by Michal Vinik.
Among the documentaries featured will be the world premiere of the US/Afghan title In Her Hands by Tamana Ayazi and Marcel Mettelsiefen.
