Pierce Brosnan’s Abu Dhabi-set comedy-heist film The Misfits is finally set to be released this summer and set to highlight a number of iconic locations.
He plays Richard Pace, who escapes from a federal maximum security prison and after eluding police ends up being recruited by The Misfits, a band of modern-day Robin Hoods. The group convinces Pace to join them to pull off the heist of the century: stealing millions in gold bars kept under one of the most secure prisons on earth, owned by rogue businessman Schultz (Tim Roth), and used for funding terrorist groups worldwide.
Directed by Finnish filmmaker Renny Harlin (who made Cliffhanger and Die Hard 2) in early 2019, the film was partly shot in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and is co-produced by Emirati company FilmGate. Its release has been held up – like so many films – due to the Covid pandemic. It is expected to arrive in the region on June 10.
The Misfits is produced by Kia Jam (Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For) and Dean Altit (Realms) and executive produced by Rami Jaber (Realms), who also plays the role of 'The Prince' in the film.
Jam was quoted as saying: "After visiting and scouting Abu Dhabi, we were blown away. We all agreed in order to do the film justice, production would have to take place primarily on location in Abu Dhabi rather than LA, and we set up our base at the spectacular Jumeirah at Etihad Towers."
During filming Brosnan wrote on his Instagram site:” "First week down. All on point, great crew, great cast, great fun. And our new Abu Dhabi family are looking after us all with such aloha ... inshallah."
The film also stars Nick Cannon, Jamie Chung, Mike Angelo and Hermione Corfield. The film promises fun, adventure and action a-plenty. As the official synopsis states:” Aside from the money, Pace wants revenge against Schultz, the man behind his incarceration. From LA to Abu Dhabi, it will take supercharged engines, forged identities, multiple cons, camels, nitro and massive explosions to succeed.”
