Algerian actress Sofia Boutella is set to star in director Zack Snyder’s sci-fi action-adventure Rebel Moon, his first film as part of a new overall deal with streamer Netflix.

She will star as a woman with a mysterious past who has to recruit warriors from various planets to try and protect a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of the evil and tyrannical Regent Baslisarius.

Snyder signed the deal with the streaming platform following the success of his zombie/heist film Army of the Dead. Snyder is directing Rebel Moon as well as co-writing it with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, based on a story by Snyder and Johnstad. Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Snyder will produce for The Stone Quarry along with Eric Newman for Grand Electric.

Boutella has built a strong career in major Hollywood films after roles in Atomic Blonde, opposite Charlize Theron; The Mummy with Tom Cruise, and as an assassin in The Kingsman: The Secret Service, all following her film debut in British dance film StreetDance 2. She recently starred in Wyatt Rockefeller’s debut Settlers, and has a major role in upcoming BBC television series SAS: Rogue Heroes.
