This year's Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival now in its 58th year, will run from October 2-9, 2021 and be hosted by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism. Like last year's edition, the 2021 Antalya Film Forum will be held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic and will take place between October 4-6, 2021. The event is to be directed by Müge Özen and Pınar Evrenesoğlu, with co-production specialist, Katriel Schory, taking on the role of Antalya Film Forum international consultant.
In a written statement, the Mayor of Antalya, Muhittin Böcek, Chairman of the festival, indicated that the Antalya Film Forum would comprise of five separate categories: the Pitching for Feature Films in Development Platform, the Features Work in Progress Platform, the Documentaries Work in Progress Platform, the Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund Pitching Platform, and lastly, the Series / Short Series Pitching Platform, which was inaugurated last year.
Submissions for the Features Work in Progress Platform, which provides funding and networking support to emerging projects produced or co-produced in Turkey, and the Documentaries Work in Progress Platform, where support is given to documentary projects that have completed principal photography or are at the post-production stage, must be received by the deadline of August 19, 2021. For the Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund Pitching Platform, which provides support to a single feature film produced or co-produced in Turkey and scheduled to shoot in the city of Antalya, the submissions deadline is also August 19, 2021.
The submission deadline for the Pitching for Feature Films in Development Platform, a competition for full-length fiction films at the development stage, has been announced as August 23, 2021, the same deadline as for the Series / Short Series Pitching Platform which was launched as a new addition to the Forum program last year -- a reflection of the growing role and importance of series in the audiovisual industry. The category seeks both to identify new talent and to contribute to the development of original and creative content by providing national and international support, as well as to help and encourage series producers.
Projects selected have three cycles of announcements, with the Features Work in Progress and Documentaries Work in Progress Platforms to be announced on September 7, 2021, while the Series / Short Series Pitching Platform will see participant notified on September 9, 2021, and for the Pitching for Feature Films and the Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund Pitching Platforms the selections will be announced on September 13, 2021.
Submissions for the National Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film competitions were announced on the Festival website earlier this year and have now closed as of August 9.
The Mayor of Antalya, Muhittin Böcek, noted that the Festival program would include competitions in the National Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film categories as well as the Antalya Film Forum and International Feature Film Competition. He also pointed out that a total TL1.4 million of prize money would be awarded this year.
To be eligible for the National Competitions, films must have been completed after the August 14 2020 submission deadline for the 57th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Additionally, entries must neither have been previewed or screened publicly in Turkey prior to the 58th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, nor have been presented at any other national festival. Submissions were accepted online through the Festival website up until the deadline at 18.00 on Monday August 9, 2021.
Open-air screenings were introduced for the first time at last year’s edition of the Festival, a practice which will continue this year. However, a number of screenings and events will also be held in indoor settings, where all necessary Covid measures will be in place to keep audiences, guests and the Festival team safe.
The 58th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival is chaired by Mayor of Antalya, Muhittin Böcek, and executive directed by Cansel Tuncer. The Festival director is Ahmet Boyacıoğlu and the artistic director Başak Emre. The 8th Antalya Film Forum will take place October 4-6, 2021.
