In a cotton-farming village in Sudan, 15-year-old Nafisa has a crush on Babiker, but her parents have arranged her marriage to Nadir, a young Sudanese businessman living abroad.

In the suspended time and space of a Doha traffic jam, a random group of people create a temporary urban society through subconscious communication.

These are the basic ideas behind two of Suzannah Mirghani's beautiful, haunting films. The filmmaker is quickly making a name for herself and she proves here that she's equally as comfortable telling a completely narrative story as well as one that employs documentary techniques to bring the viewer into the collective subconscious of a city, a country, a whole Region even.

We are excited to team up with Soleil Space on this live streaming screening of the two films, Al-Sit and Caravan, by the Doha based filmmaker. Soleil is a wonderful women-run company that shines the spotlight on all cultural efforts from the Global South. A partnership in showcasing the talent overflowing from the MENA was a natural for us at MIME.

Mirghani is now working on her feature debut Cotton Queen, which promises to be spellbinding.

Tune in on Saturday, September 17th, at 12 p.m. EST, 5 p.m. London Time and 7 p.m. Saudi Time and don't be left out!
