Turkish film 'Black Night' and Martín Boulocq's 'The Visitor' win top prizes at Antalya

The 59th edition of the festival saw world cinema and Turkish films alike walk away winners.
Turkish film 'Black Night' and Martín Boulocq's 'The Visitor' win top prizes at Antalya

The Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival has just come to an end and the prizes were announced. Among the award-winning titles, in the International Competition the Bolivia/Uruguay production The Visitor, directed by Martín Boulocq won Best Film, and the Special Jury Prize went to Israeli Ukrainian drama Valeria is Getting Married by Michal Vinik, with Damian Kocur winning Best Director for Bread and Salt, which was a festival favorite. The Polish film deals with the ideas of belonging and being a foreigner in one's own country. The International Competition Jury featured Romanian actress Anamaria Marinca, French-American actor Jean-Marc Barr, Russian-born film curator and critic Nikolaj Nikitin, Arte France director Olivier Père, and Icelandic director and screenwriter Valdimar Jóhannsson.

In the National Competition, the Best Film Award was handed to Black Night, directed by Özcan Alper, with Mirror, Mirror directed by Belmin Söylemez, written by Haşmet Topaloğlu also securing a Jury Prize, and Snow and the Bear, directed by Selcen Ergun, produced by Nefes Polat securing a Best First Film award.

The National Feature Film Competition Jury featured as President the screenwriter-director-producer Yeşim Ustaoğlu, and she was joined by actor-director Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan, the screenwriter-director Azra Deniz Okyay, musician Harun Tekin, poet Haydar Ergülen, actress Nurgül Yeşilçay and cinematographer Uğur İçbak.
