The annual Sharjah Film Platform (SFP), which stages its fourth edition this year, running November 19-27, is featuring a Virtual Film Distribution Market as party of its Industry Hub as well as presenting a full programme of film screenings, workshops and talks. The Industry Hub also includes a Script Lab and the Pitching Forum.
The festival, organised by Sharjah Art Foundation, supports the growing film scene by celebrating and sustaining the work of local, regional and international filmmakers, while the Virtual Film Distribution Market is supported by the event's industry partner Sharjah Media City (Shams). The initiative will offer local filmmakers, selected through an international open call, distribution support through a dedicated online catalogue of film listings.
The catalogue of films will include international and regional titles across genres, from documentary to narrative to experimental (both features and shorts). It will be privately showcased online for viewing only by an invited list of industry guests, including sales agents, distributors, TV broadcasters, buyers, art-house cinemas, and film festival programmers, both regional and international.
The initiative is aimed at providing filmmakers with an opportunity for industry exposure that may open the door to the broader distribution of their films. Industry guests who access the platform will be able to contact filmmakers/rights holders directly if interested in discussing a potential deal and/or buying a film.
