Alex Ritman at The Hollywood Reporter is known for his no-nonsense take on the business of cinema in the MENA region, and his profiles of film personalities are always insightful. His latest interview, with Shahrbanoo Sadat, is no exception.

Sadat won the top Directors' Fortnight prize in 2016 with her first feature Wolf and Sheep and returned to Cannes in 2019 with The Orphanage.

In the interview, Sadat talks of her attempts to flee Kabul with her family and hauntingly, at one point she tells Ritman, “if I survive this and I have the chance to make more films, my cinema will have changed forever...”
